During an interview, the 50-year-old opened up about Djokovic’s participation in the US Open. He said, “I don’t know about the US Open, it’s difficult for me. I am more optimistic that director Tomislav Poljak will give me an invitation and that I will win Umag, than that they will let him go to the US Open.”
Further, he added, “As a country, they are closed to the unvaccinated, for now he cannot enter the country. And the tournament as a tournament, there is no problem with it.”
Last year, Djokovic fell just short of completing a calendar year Grand Slam. He lost out to Daniil Medvedev in the finals of the US Open 2021. As a result, he is set to defend 1200 ranking points this year.
