The Pennsylvania native played lacrosse for Loyola University in Maryland from 2016-19, building up a resume that put him in the conversation as one of the best college lacrosse players to ever play. For three consecutive seasons at Loyola, he was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award – given to the most outstanding college lacrosse player in the country, akin to the Wooden or Heisman trophies – before winning the award in his senior year.
Spencer finished his college lax career as the all-time Division I leader in assists and second in goals. Going into the Premier Lacrosse League draft, he was a no-brainer for the number one overall pick.
Instead, Spencer chose basketball, a decision that has paid off to a startling degree.

He averaged 10 points and 4 boards in his lone season as a graduate transfer with Northwestern. In 14 minutes a game, he put up 7.5 points per game on an extremely efficient 58.3% from the field and 46.7% from deep. These stats earned him a training camp deal with the defending NBA champions.
Players are vying for the few remaining spots on the Warrior’s 15-man roster. The Exhibit 10 deal suggest that it’s unlikely Spencer makes it to the big club, but he has a good opportunity to earn his way onto the organization’s G-League roster with a strong showing in training camp.
Plus, he’ll likely have many lacrosse fans cheering him on along the way.
