“If I don’t have permission, I won’t go. It’s not the end of the world either,” said Djokovic, with some resignation,
when faced with the impossibility of entering the United States to play the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam of the season, as he was not vaccinated.
Circumstances have changed and now Djokovic will be able to enter the United States without being vaccinated and his participation in New York depends on the authorisation of the tournament organisers.
On Thursday the CDC, the agency that governs health measures in the United States, announced the end of many of the COVID restrictions.
The main one is that from Friday, vaccinated people will be treated the same as unvaccinated people.
This paves the way for the Serbian tennis player, world No.5 and winner of Wimbledon, to play in the US Open.
In fact, the Serb is waiting for the organisers of the American Grand Slam to confirm his participation, given he is already registered.

The Serb never abandoned the possibility of competing in New York. In fact, he has been training as if he knew for sure he was going to play.
There are just over two weeks to go before the tournament starts and there might not be enough time to complete all the bureaucratic
formalities (visas, etc) for Djokovic to make it, but for the first time in weeks, he has a real chance of fighting for the Grand Slam.
