Some think the GOAT debate should be settled by the Grand Slam title number, while some argue that Federer is “the tennis” and that he’s the GOAT no matter what. “People always like to compare. I see it every day with my twins.
Without wanting, you compare them. You shouldn’t — ever,” Federer told The Associated Press. “Naturally, we do the same in tennis. I am my own career, my own player, that needed those challenges. They needed a challenger like myself.
We made each other better. So at the end of the day, we’ll all shake hands and be like, ‘That was awesome.’ Now is somebody going to be happier than the other? I mean, in moments, maybe”.
McEnroe on choosing the GOAT between Federer, Nadal, Djokovic
This year, McEnroe told Eurosport his opinion on choosing the GOAT among the Big Three.
“If I had to choose the GOAT of tennis among these guys I would divide them, in my opinion, between the greatest on the grass, Roger, the most tireless player, Novak, and the greatest on earth, Rafa,” said McEnroe.

Mike Bryan, the doubles legend, also weighed in on the GOAT debate: “It is not easy to determine exactly who the GOAT is, but I choose Roger Federer. In the years he dominated, he only lost a handful of games in the entire season.
The way he played was incredibly smooth. Roger has always had the ability not to sweat, I would compare him to a Zen master. Also, I’ve always liked his relaxed attitude in the locker room.
Before playing the Wimbledon final, he laughed and joked in the locker room as if it were a Sunday afternoon in the park. Even if many records have been torn from him, Federer will always have a special place in my heart.
