Carlos Alcaraz has claimed that he wants to see Novak Djokovic play “every tournament” in 2023 after the Serb was famously left unable to play two Grand Slams and four Masters 1000 events this year. The world No 1 wanted to continue proving himself next season by beating the 21-time Grand Slam champion, having already won their only meeting at this year’s Madrid Masters.
We Alcaraz enjoyed a standout season in 2022, winning five titles – including his first Grand Slam title at the US Open – and becoming the youngest-ever ATP world No 1 in history. Still only 19 years of age, the Spaniard has gone from hunter to hunted and is ready to start 2023 as the man to beat.

While the six-time title winner will be getting used to having a target on his back, he is still aiming to beat some of the biggest names in the sport as he shared his hope to see Djokovic back to a full schedule next season after his unvaccinated status preventing him from playing a series of big tournaments this year.

“Tennis is better having the best players in the world, and for the fans as well it’s good to see a tournament with the best player,” the world No 1 said ahead of this weekend’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition tournament.
“Talking for me, I want to see Novak play in every tournament.” And the 19-year-old admitted he wanted the 21-time Grand Slam champion back in action for a selfish reason – to prove himself against one of the sport’s biggest forces.
