Emma Raducanu lost her longest match of the season to Bianca Andreescu at the Miami Masters to leave the British No 1 running out of time to get seeded for Wimbledon. And the former US Open champion will now return to the UK to consult specialists about her “annoying and frustrating” wrist injury.
The Canadian won the entertaining battle of the teenage US Open champions 6-3 3-6 6-2 in the Hard Rock Stadium. Andreescu, who triumphed in New York aged 19 in 2019, backed Raducanu to make a swift return to the world’s top 10.

But the 2021 US Open winner will now take a month off – and miss the Billie Jean King Cup tie in Coventry – to rest her wrist before starting her clay-court season at the Porsche Grand Prix on April 17. The world No 72 also plans to play Masters events in Madrid and Rome before Roland Garros starts on May 28.

She needs a swift climb up the rankings to reach the top 32 before Wimbledon on July 3 – if the wrist injury which cut short her 2022 season allows her a full playing schedule. “It’s something I’ve been managing for some time,” said Raducanu. “And, yeah, I just need to review after this tournament really and figure out what my next steps are.
“Will I get some alternative advice on it? Yeah, because we have been managing it, keeping on top of it. I’m able to play in the short-term. But the current solutions aren’t very viable long-term.
