NASCAR All-Star Race to Feature Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway
NASCAR drivers and racing fans alike are gearing up for another weekend of historic racing, as the NASCAR All-Star Race heads to North Wilkesboro Speedway on Sunday. The Speedway, which last held a Cup Series event in September 1996, is part of NASCAR’s Heritage Celebration in its 75th year.
To qualify for the 200-lap event, drivers must have won a race in either 2022 or 2023, have won a previous All-Star Race, or have won a Cup Series championship. 21 drivers meet this criteria, while the remaining three spots in the 24-car field will be decided by the top two finishers of the 100-lap All-Star Open and a fan vote.

Before the Open on Sunday, the starting grids for two 60-lap heat races on Saturday night will be determined from times in a pit stop competition. One heat will determine the starting positions for the inside lane, while the other determines the outside lane, similar to the twin qualifying races for the Daytona 500.
The unique North Wilkesboro Speedway features a downhill front stretch and an uphill backstretch, setting it apart from other tracks in NASCAR. Cars will start on brand-new sticker tires for the All-Star Race and can only use one set after the competition caution. The winner will take home a $1 million prize, the second-highest payout of the year after the Daytona 500.
North Wilkesboro Speedway opened its doors in 1947, holding at least one Cup Series race annually from 1949 to 1996. It is one of the oldest tracks in NASCAR, alongside Richmond, Virginia’s historic track.
BetMGM has listed Kyle Larson (+600) and Kevin Harvick (+800) as the top favorites to win the race due to their multiple All-Star wins. Chase Elliott (+1200) and Ryan Blaney (+1800) are also good mid-tier bets, with Elliott having won the All-Star Race in 2020 and finishing in the top 10 in his last five short track starts. Blaney is the defending champion and typically performs well in the tight confines of tracks like Martinsville and Bristol, which resemble North Wilkesboro.

While the weather for Friday and Sunday looks clear, thunderstorms could interfere with Saturday’s race schedule. The Craftsman Truck Series will also be running in support of the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, with their qualifying and race scheduled to take place before the All-Star Race heats.
