NASCAR champion Joey Logano gets NC town’s OK to build racing…
NASCAR champion driver Joey Logano and a Davidson developer received the town of Huntersville’s backing Tuesday night for a $255 million mixed-use development that they say will create 850 permanent jobs.
The Lake Norman-area project, called Town 1 Mixed Use Center, will include 747 multi-family homes, a seven-story office building, seven-story parking deck and three two-story commercial buildings, according to the plans by Logano and Treenail Development.

The Huntersville Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning for the project in a 6-1 vote Tuesday night. Commissioner Rob Kidwell, who voted against the rezoning, called Town 1 “a nice project” but said it’s too large, with a seven-story parking deck and seven-story office building. “Just because a developer wants to come in, we can say no,” Kidwell said. Commissioner Dan Boone made the motion to approve the rezoning, calling the project “in the public interest” and consistent with the town’s 2040 Community Plan that guides growth and development. The 70.5-acre Town 1 development will be at 11101 Hambright Road on the southern end of town, with I-77 along the eastern side of the property. Mount Holly-Huntersville Road borders another side of the land. A CATS station will be near the main Hambright Road entrance to the center. WHO IS NASCAR DRIVER JOEY LOGANO? Logano drives the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang car for Team Penske. In 2022, he won his second NASCAR Cup Series championship title in four years. The driver has owned 24 of the project’s 72 acres for 12 or 13 years, Ben Geisler, Treenail Development president, told the Huntersville Planning Board in May. Logano’s Catawba Property Investments LLC is the legal owner of his land holdings at the site. “This is a project we both take a lot of pride in,” Geisler told the Planning Board. “We’re not out-of-town developers, just coming in, in and out.” Acreage for residential and commercial uses will be about 50-50, Geisler said.

Housing of various types will be scattered across the site, and most will be for rent, he said. Seven will be affordable-housing units, according to the developers’ plans. The project calls for 419,300 square feet of non-residential space, including at least 126,000 square feet for offices, 96,500 square feet for restaurants and other retailers, and 172,000 for warehousing.
